KICK OFF PHASE I
Preliminary context analysis
The Art + Design research team kicked off the project in November 2018. For the next four months, they conducted a preliminary analysis as part of the design-based research strategy implemented for the purposes of this investigation. A compact literature review and fieldwork across 13 countries with participants (museum and school educators, students) recruited for the pilot iterative cycles to follow, suggested a generally positive stance with regards to use of museum-based practices and literacy-driven pedagogical scenarios for teaching culturally and linguistically diverse students. An interesting finding from the research related to the students’ perceptions regarding virtual museums. Students seemed more positive to engage in learning activities through virtual museums, in contrast to traditional classroom teaching and even physical museum sites.
